Python history and its introduction

The word Python- isn't it scary? Does it bring an image of big reptile in your mind? Hahaha don't be worried. Here we are talking about a programming language that is known for its usability and productive.

Python is easy-to-learn yet one of the powerful programming language and highly demanded these days in IT industry. Python is an interpreted, high level, general purpose programming language developed by Guido van Rossum at Centrum Wiskunde & Infortica(CWI).
The implementation was started in 1989 and the  first version of Python was released in 1991 with features like
  • Exception handling
  • Map
  • Reduce
  • Filter

He is Guido van Rossum, the father of Python programming language. He formulated Python in the late 1980's as a successor to the ABC language. He named the language after his favourite and BBC comedy show " Monty Python's Flying Circus".


Python ancestors


Python was mainly influenced by following languages:

  • SETL language: It is a very high level programming language based on mathematical set theory.

  • ABC language: It was influenced by SETL and was also developed at CWI. It was intended to replace BASIC and Pascal language.
